How to write goals that matter… and that work (3/5) 👆
Last week you worked on the three questions you have to answer to write proper annual goals.
But our work here is not done yet.
Answering the questions is half the exercise. Now we have to structure those answers so they become more than ideas and hopes. They have to make a plan.
Goals that work
There’s a big difference between “eat more greens” and “eat spinach 3 times a week”.
And a big difference between “eat spinach 3 times a week” and “meal-plan picking at least 3 of these spinach-containing recipes each week”. *
Answering last week’s questions, we know your goals matter.
By answering this week’s questions, you will know your goals will work.
Why are you doing it – or ROI
When you accomplish this goal, how will that change your business?
What will the improvement be?
Will you add employee happiness, business growth, new opportunities, and additional cash?
What are you doing – or KPIs
How will you recognize that you are working towards this goal?
What will happen in your business over the next few months? What do you expect to see that you wouldn’t see if you weren’t working on this goal?
What will you be able to point to each week or month to say “Yes, we are getting there”?
Your business goals
With this system, your goals will no longer be
- Too vague
- Too far fetched
- Too siloed
- Too simple
Instead, they will be concrete, realistic, balanced, and transformational.
