*Upon request, this month I will give you one worksheet and walk you through how to use it over the following weeks

Hiring is not only about values and principles.

There is also technical skill to consider.

The question is:  which technical abilities are essential from day one, and which can be developed on the job?

The skills they have

Behaviors and good instincts matter a lot in hiring.

But it’s equally important to balance these with a candidate’s technical skills. This is why the worksheet has space for a list of technical abilities.

What those abilities are are determined by:

  • What they need to be able to do on day 1
  • What is too onerous for you to teach on the job

The skills they learn

That means you can be more flexible with the skills they can learn on the job.

Make your hiring more flexible by knowing the balance between cultural fit, technical ability, and your natural instinct.

Give the right weight to each factor when looking for your next hire.

What next

Survey your current workforce: have you applied this balance to your team today? Let’s review your org chart and make sure

But what about training them once they are on the job? Come back next week to find out.
