The Way Visionary Thinking Forgets About Operational Action
It is easy to think big in business.
Setting a big goal is exciting and energising. Until reality sets in.
Because the hard part isn’t thinking big: it’s acting small, every single day.
The challenge
Setting goals is easy. Achieving them is hard.
Not because we lack dedication or effort, but because too often we skip all the inbetween.
We set a goal and a deadline. And then we spend the intervening months looking at that goal.
The approach
But results don’t happen just because we are excited about our goal..
Results happen because of the many, tiny, tasks and habits that we work on every single day.
So work backwards.
Set your goal.
Then ask yourself: how do you know you are achieving your goal? What will you see happening in your business that tells you you’re on track?
From there, define the tasks and routines that create those milestones. These are daily actions, the substance behind the ambition.
The result
When you plan this way, you move from vision to action. You stop asking, “Are we there yet?” and start asking, “What can we do tomorrow that will move us forward?”
Because a goal doesn’t happen on its own. It happens in the steady, intentional steps you perform each day.
