The number one secret to having happy customers is having happy employees.

No matter what else you have in place, if your employees don’t like what they do, customers will notice, and they won’t like working with you.

When you are thinking about how to gather customer feedback, remember that employee feedback should be part of that project.

What do you want

From your employees, that is.

You probably want dedication, some form of loyalty. You want to know that your team is working towards the stated goal and that they are trustworthy and reliable.

Productivity – however you define it. You want things to get done, and you want to be able to focus on your work and still now that all the other things are being done.

There is a standard of work that you always expect. You want to trust that things are not just being done, but done in a way that you’re happy to associate with your brand. You want to know that everybody is working on the standards you have set.

What do they want

Your employees want attention, they want recognition, they want to be learning and growing, they want a promotion, a friendly atmosphere, a comfortable chair, and a proper lunch break.

They also want to be productive, and do good work, and be proud of what they accomplish.

What do you ask

Do not take for granted that everybody has exactly what they want and need.

Take the time to talk to your employees, and to let them stop and look around.

Ask them if they like working for you, but be clever about it. Ask the right questions.

  • What do they like about working there?
  • What do they hope to achieve or learn over the next year?
  • If they could change one thing what would it be?
  • Is there more information that would make their job easier?
  • Is there a resource or tool that would make their job easier?

Each answer you receive is a conversation. Brainstorm with your employees on how to make your company the perfect place for them to work.
