Practical & Powerful: Why Your Business Mission Statement Matters More Than You Think. (The Worksheet)

“Mission statements, So woo.”

I understand why so many people still think of mission statements as unnecessary embellishments.

Mission statements can often feel aspirational at best, vague and self-centered at worst.

It’s what happens when your mission statement isn’t practical.

Think of your mission

At first glance, it seems so conceptual.

A mission statement feels like a lofty ideal or a feel-good exercise.

When you look at it as a functional tool, that will change.

Mission statements explain why your business exists, even in a market with other, similar businesses.

Plan your mission

Once you have defined your mission you will see that it is more than an idea.

It is a plan.

It will give your business

  • Direction: deciding what to do and how
  • Appeal: attracting the right people to join you
  • Consistency: aligning your people, your work, and your goals

Write your mission

Use this week’s worksheet to get started and write a mission that explains why your business should exist.
